Aidan Kaminska was a fierce athlete and a loyal friend. On the field he would approach the game with confidence, which was instrumental to his success. Off the field, he would encourage and support others to succeed whether it be on the field or in life. He was known to say “My Day” meaning it was his day to shine.
Aidan Kaminska attended the Port Jefferson School District from Kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating from Earl L. Vandermeulen H.S. in 2020. Aidan was a recipient of the Suffolk Zone Award in 8th grade. That year he also was a member of the championship team for the 2016 World Series of Youth Lacrosse, which was held in Denver, Colorado. In high school, Aidan excelled at both lacrosse and football, earning the title of Captain on both teams.
As early as 6th grade, Aidan would train before school lifting in the weight room or doing drills in the gym. After school when team practices were complete, Aidan would go to face-off training, travel team practices, and/or training clinics.
Aidan was an avid lover of baby animals and eating healthy. He could often be found petting small animals and cooking self-created recipes including sautéing fresh spinach. He also loved to drink milk.
His junior year in lacrosse he earned All-County Midfielder racking up 76 points (47 goals and 29 assists), winning 149 out of 196 draws, and scooping up 57 ground balls. He was named to Newsday's Top 100 Lacrosse Players for Long Island. His senior season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
In his junior year of high school he committed to play college lacrosse for Stony Brook University. The summer before his senior year in high school after being selected and playing in the Top 25 game for Suffolk County for lacrosse, he would switch his lacrosse commitment to the University of Massachusetts Amherst to play for Coach Greg Cannella. Aidan was the 1st lacrosse player from the Port Jefferson School District to commit and play at the Division 1 level in lacrosse.
In football, his junior season would earn him All-Division honors. His senior season in football had him tie the NYS record at the time for second in all-time receptions in a game (17 receptions) against Mount Sinai. He led Suffolk County as a receiving leader with 1,078 yards, with 14 touchdowns and 62 receptions.
He earned All-Division and All-County for football and was
named All-State Third Team for New York State in 2019. He would have played in the Suffolk All-Star game for football in the spring but it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. He earned the Male Dellecave Award Nominee for the district his senior year.
In college, Aidan was named to the Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner’s Honor Roll for earning a 3.0 G.P.A. his fall semester of his freshman year. He would be redshirted his freshman season. His sophomore year he would play in 6 games scoring 9 goals, with a hat trick against Hofstra University. He was named CAA Rookie of the Week, and for the season was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. He was also named to the CAA All-Tournament Team.
In addition to being an outstanding athlete, Aidan was a loyal friend and teammate. He loved to return from college and help the Boys’ Varsity lacrosse team at Port Jefferson practice and lift. In the spring of his sophomore season at UMass, he would end up saving a friend and former teammate from committing suicide.
Aidan had an infectious smile and was known to be goofy and make people laugh. He often provided a spark of energy on the field especially in tight games under pressure. He was known for his confidence and he tried to instill that confidence in others.
